The Supreme Court has upheld the High Court's verdict to reinstate the 30% quota for freedom fighters in government jobs for grades 9 to 13. Once the full High Court verdict is released, a regular appeal will be heard.
In response, BNP's Acting Chairman, Tariq Rahman, has expressed his support for abolishing the job quota system. He promised that if BNP wins the next election, the job quota system will be canceled.

The hearing of the application filed by the state party seeking stay of the judgment given by the High Court has been adjourned. In view of the writ petitioner's plea of time, the Appellate Division ordered 'not today'. The six-member Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan gave this order on Thursday.
In addition, the Supreme Court has asked the state party to regularly file leave to appeal.
In the context of the quota reform movement, the High Court ruled on June 5 declaring invalid the decision to cancel the 30 percent freedom fighter quota in the recruitment of first and second class government jobs five years ago. As a result of this verdict, the 30 percent freedom fighter quota for first and second class government jobs came back.

Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman has expressed his support for the demand to cancel the quota system in government jobs. He said that if BNP forms the government, the job quota system will be cancelled. He said this in a video message. This video message was broadcast by BNP on Wednesday.

Acting Chairman of BNP said there, quota can never be a substitute for merit. So, the demand of students and youth regarding job quota is definitely fair and reasonable. If the BNP forms the government according to the people's verdict, it will surely implement any logical and fair demands of the students and youth. At the same time, the state must seriously consider the issue of the disabled.
