Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that 147 people have been killed so far in the clashes surrounding the quota reform movement. The minister said this in a press briefing at the secretariat on Sunday.
The Home Minister said that students, policemen and people of various professions are among the dead. This will be explained in detail later. The minister mentioned that the official information of 147 deaths is according to the calculations received till today (Sunday).
He said that verification is going on to ascertain the number of victims. If deaths are subsequently reported, the number may rise. The process of determining how many women, how many men or people of other professions are among the dead is also underway.
The student movement started on July 1 to demand quota reforms. On July 15, after the clashes surrounding the students' movement in Dhaka University, protests spread almost all over the country. From the next day, attacks, clashes, violence, vandalism, arson and casualties occurred in different parts of the country including Dhaka.
