quota reform movement.

Zahidul Karim wrote in his resignation letter, 'I am deeply saddened by the indifference of the Bangladesh government and the partisan attitude of teachers for the recent violence and anarchy in the country. I have always spoken for truth and justice and have always stood by students for their fair rights.

"Many ordinary students have lost their precious lives due to the aggressive attitude of the government against the movement for a just right of student quota reform. If the government wanted to quickly accept the demands of the students, then so many lives would not have been lost. The families of the students who were killed had many dreams. They are disoriented today due to the pain of losing their children. Along with them, the entire nation is grieving today,' he added.

Zahidul Karim also mentioned, 'The killings of Chhatra League, police, RAB and BGB on ordinary students for more than a week has given birth to a black chapter for this nation. The brutality of 1971 was also followed by the killing of common people including students of schools, colleges and universities and the bloodbath of a number of protesting teachers. I have seen the university administration and teachers remain indifferent to this murder.

Questioning the role of teachers to the nation today, he said, 'Due to political partisanship, the conscience of the teaching community has disappeared, the teacher-student relationship has been lost. Expressing my deep respect, love and prayers for all the martyred students and all the injured teachers and students. I am voluntarily resigning from the post of Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies, Jahangirnagar University to awaken the values and ethics of the entire teaching community of Bangladesh.'

When contacted, Zahidul Karim told The Daily Star, 'I have voluntarily sought exemption. I have mentioned the reasons in the discharge letter and presented my statement.'
