Obaidul Quader, General Secretary of the ruling Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, commented on the growing partnership between Bangladesh and China. He stated, "India is our political friend, China is our development friend."

Quader made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the mountain fruit fair at the Sheikh Hasina Chittagong Hill Tract Heritage Conservation and Research Center on Bailey Road in the capital on Saturday. The seven-day fair is organized by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.

Referring to Bangladesh's foreign policy of 'friendship with all, enmity with none,' Quader emphasized that this policy, introduced by Bangabandhu, is also upheld by Sheikh Hasina and the current government. He acknowledged India's long-standing friendship since 1971, highlighting the support of Indian soldiers during the liberation war, the exchange of enclaves, and the resolution of the international sea border dispute. He stated, "We cannot forget our friends in times of trouble."

Quader also addressed unresolved issues with India, suggesting that good relations could lead to solutions through dialogue. He defended the 25-year alliance agreement with India, dismissing accusations from BNP that it was a "slavery agreement" and asserting that Bangladesh has benefited from this alliance.

Regarding the Prime Minister's visit to China, Quader stated, "We have a partnership with China for development. India is our political friend. China is our development friend." He highlighted significant Chinese contributions, such as the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Karnaphuli Tunnel, the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane road, and the construction of the Padma Bridge.

Quader also mentioned Japan's assistance with the Metrorail project and defended the government's approach to seeking foreign aid for development. He criticized those who opposed these projects, saying, "Why should I not take help where it is available for our development? Some people's hearts burn with envy over projects like the Padma Setu, Elevated Expressway, and Metrorail."

Responding to BNP's claims that the Prime Minister is begging for aid on her visit to China, Quader retorted, "We do not go with an alms bag." He criticized BNP's former Finance Minister Saifur Rahman, accusing him of repeatedly seeking foreign aid. He asserted, "Big words do not fit in their mouths."

In his criticism of BNP, Quader stated, "Who is kneeling? Invertebrates crouch. Bangabandhu's party, Awami League, and Bangabandhu's daughter, Sheikh Hasina, will never bow down.
