The students of Dhaka University are continuing their agitation against the High Court's order to reinstate 56 percent quota including 30 percent freedom fighter quota in first and second class government jobs. At the same time, they demanded the reinstatement of the circular of 2018.
During the campus tour, the students raised slogans - 'The principle of the constitution/liberation war, equality of opportunity', 'Sara Banglaye Khabar De, Kota Prathar Kabar De', 'Dalali Na Rajpath, Rajpath Rajpath,' 'Atharo's tool, let it roar again', 'Jegeche Re.' Awake, student society has woken up', 'Legeche raye lege, blood is on fire', 'Quota system, want to cancel, want to cancel', 'Against quota system, direct action', 'Quota or merit, merit merit', 'compromise or struggle, struggle' Struggle', 'There is no room for discrimination in Bengal during the Liberation War'.
This time the students are protesting for 4 point demands. The demands are-
1. Abolition of quota system in government jobs announced in 2018 and retention of merit based recruitment circular.
2. Expeditious abolition of unreasonable and discriminatory quotas in all grades of government jobs (except underprivileged and disabled) by constituting a commission subject to the circular being upheld.
3. Quota facility cannot be availed more than once in the recruitment examination of government jobs and if no qualified candidates are available in the quota, the vacancies will be appointed on merit basis.
4. Taking effective measures to ensure a corruption-free, impartial and merit-based bureaucracy.
Incidentally, the High Court declared invalid the decision to cancel the quota system including the freedom fighter quota in the first and second class government jobs.
