The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has called for a “national unity” to press home one-point demand of toppling the government in the context of mass arrest of opposition leaders and activists across the country and torture unleashed on them.
Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir sent a statement to the media in this regard on Friday night.
I am calling for national unity to all parties and alliances of the simultaneous movement led by BNP, all political parties of left and right, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and other religious and Islamic political parties and organizations.
He said, "This is a call for national unity to unite all democratic political parties, social and cultural organizations and forces to demand the downfall of the one-party, illegal, fascist Hasina government."
In the statement, he urged all the democratic political parties, social and cultural organizations, individuals and forces of the country to unite and form a national unity in order to restore the spoiled democracy and suffrage rights, to liberate the disenfranchised people and the nation, for the greater national interest.
Mirza Fakhrul said consent could be given through a statement due to time and communication constraints. A joint statement signed by all who agreed will be issued soon. This historic declaration and document of national unity will speed up the liberation of the country and the nation, inshallah.
