140 world leaders write to UN to take action against repression in Bangladesh

140 prominent academics, writers and intellectuals of the world have written an open letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, to take action against repression in Bangladesh.

 Last Thursday (July 25) they wrote this letter expressing concern over the violence and the current situation surrounding the quota movement in Bangladesh.

Writer Amitabh Ghosh posted on social media X (formerly Twitter) confirming the letter signed by 140 prominent people of the world. In the letter, the prominent people said, in view of such an environment of intimidation and torture, as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Falker Turk, they request pressure to conduct an independent investigation into those incidents. So that those responsible for the violence and obstruction of the press can be held accountable.

The letter also states that they are deeply concerned about the casualties of students and others participating in the protest. Call for immediate action.
