Pori Moni Scandal: DB Official Saklain losing job

THE HOME MINISTRY HAS SENT GOLAM SAQLAIN, THE FORMER ADDITIONAL DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF DHAKA METROPOLITAN POLICE (DMP) INTELLIGENCE BRANCH (DB), ON COMPULSORY RETIREMENT DUE TO HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE PORI MONI SCANDAL

Pori Moni Scandal:  DB Official Saklain losing job

The ministry sought the opinion of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) in this regard on June 13.

In a letter to the PSC from the Ministry of Home Affairs, it was stated that Saklain became involved in a romantic relationship with Pori Moni while he was assigned to the Detective Branch’s Gulshan Division.

He began living at Pori Moni's house. Additionally, when his wife was absent, Pori Moni used to stay at the official’s house as well.

On August 7, 2021, DMP withdrew additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Md Golam Saklain from the Gulshan Division of DB based on allegations of unprofessional conduct with actor Pori Moni during an investigation.

Several media reports indicated that Saklain had engaged in unprofessional conduct with Pori Moni while supervising a case filed by the actress on June 13, 2021, against five persons, including businessman Nasir U Mahmud, former president of Uttara Club. Pori Moni had filed a rape and attempted murder case against Jatiya Party leader and businessman Nasir U Mahmud and his associate Omi following the Dhaka Boat Club incident.

The next day, Nasir was arrested from his Uttara residence.

DB Official Saklain to los job over Pori Moni Scandal

The investigating officer for this case was ADC Saklain. Concurrently, the DB Gulshan branch lodged another case against Nasir and Omi under the Narcotics Control Act at the Airport police station.

On July 6, 2022, while out on bail during Pori Moni's case, Nasir filed a case against her and two others.

During the investigation, accusations arose against Saklain for spending 18 hours with Pori Moni at his Rajarbagh residence while his wife was away, with Pori Moni celebrating Saklain's birthday lavishly.

Media reports suggested that Saklain developed a romantic relationship with Pori Moni during the investigation.

Due to these events, Saklain was withdrawn from DB on August 7, 2021, and a departmental case was filed against him.

However, Golam Saklain told reporters: "Pori Moni called me as the investigating officer of her case. I did not visit her house, and we have no relationship.".
