In the Economist Group's Global Liveability Index 2024 report, Dhaka has dropped two places to 168th position. Last year, it was ranked 166th. This year, Dhaka is just one place above Karachi. The top-ranked cities include Vienna, Copenhagen, Zurich, Melbourne, and Calgary, while the least livable cities listed are Damascus, Tripoli, Algiers, Lagos, and Karachi.
What is the EIU Livability Criteria?
The index evaluates the livability of 173 cities based on stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. According to the report, the average score across these cities has increased marginally to 76.1 out of 100. However, progress has been hindered by geopolitical conflicts, civil unrest, and housing crises in many surveyed cities.
