Complete Halt of Power Supply from Adani Plant |
The Adani coal-fired power plant in Godda, Jharkhand, shut down completely yesterday, affecting Bangladesh's power production. Power Division Secretary Habibur Rahman confirmed the issue on June 29. The plant, which supplies 1,500 megawatts to Bangladesh, had one unit offline for maintenance since before Eid-ul-Adha, and the other experienced a mechanical failure. This led to a total halt in power supply to Bangladesh.
Rahman stated that while one unit is expected to be operational tonight, the other should resume by July 2. He assured that if both units are running, there would be no issues.
According to the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), low demand during the Eid holidays led to the shutdown of the first unit for maintenance. The second unit, which faced technical problems on June 25, saw a decline in power generation before shutting down completely yesterday morning. As per BPDB data, only 370 MW was received from the plant on June 27, contributing to a significant shortfall in Bangladesh's power supply. A senior BPDB official mentioned that it's uncertain when full power supply will resume from the plant.
