The BNP’s standing committee held a meeting on Monday, during which the decision to initiate the movement was made.
The committee also expressed concerns about the declining health of Khaleda Zia, the three-time prime minister, according to Mirza Fakhrul.
He stated that Khaleda Zia's condition has been “stable” since the installation of a pacemaker in her heart.
“As far as I know, she was stable as of this morning,” the BNP secretary general said in response to a question about Khaleda Zia's latest condition.
A pacemaker was fitted in Khaleda Zia's heart at Evercare Hospital on Sunday afternoon. She was later moved to a cabin with coronary care unit (CCU) facilities.
The 79-year-old Khaleda Zia is suffering from arthritis, and ailments of the heart, liver, and lungs, in addition to diabetes.
When her health deteriorated early on Saturday morning, around 3:30 am, she was rushed to Evercare Hospital.
She had previously been admitted to Evercare Hospital on May 2, where she was treated in the CCU for two days.
The BNP secretary general accused the government of keeping Khaleda Zia confined out of political vengeance, calling it completely illegal and unconstitutional. He claimed that the government is depriving the “Deshnetri” of her rights in an attempt to secure their power by attempting to end her life.
